The restricted opening shields cigarette butts from open view and from weather that can scatter them. It also discourages mixing ignitable trash with smoldering cigarettes and reduces oxygen flow for quick smothering of lit materials.

Smokers will find the Collector easy to use, while maintenance workers will find it easy to clean. The galvanized metal canister requires no sand (or tools to sift through it) and fewer cleanings than traditional ashtrays. The unit is Factory Mutual approved for fire safety.
